SCI-MED Microscopy Facility Dr. Josef Madl Universitäts-Herzzentrum Freiburg · Bad Krozingen (UHZ) Institut für Experimentelle Kardiovaskuläre Medizin Elsässer Straße 2q 79110 Freiburg im Breisgau Germany
By train: Freiburg’s main train station (Hauptbahnhof, Hbf) is centrally located, and within less than 20 minutes walking distance of the institute. Alternatively, you can use the tram line 4 (Direction Messe) which departs every 10 min at the tram station near the main train station. Make sure to exit at the stop 'Elsässer Straße' after approx. 10 min. The Institute is no more than 100 m away from the stop.
SCI-MED (Super-Resolution Confocal/Multiphoton Imaging for Multiparametric Experimental Designs) is a light microscopy facility at the Institute for Experimental Cardiovascular Medicine (IEKM), which was established with the dedicated goal to facilitate experimental cardiovascular research in Freiburg with advanced microscopy methods and systems. The microscopes were financed by funds from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG: 44%), the Ministry for Science, Research and Arts in Baden-Württemberg (MWK: 44%) and from the budget of IEKM (12%).
In principle, SCI-MED is available for use by researchers from across the Medical Faculty, the wider University of Freiburg, and external collaborators. A key criterion is that users have projects requiring complex multiparametric experimental designs that cannot reasonably be accommodated at the Life Imaging Center Freiburg (LIC) or at other imaging resources in Freiburg. Cardiovascular research will be given priority. SCI-MED is listed in the DFG RIsources database (https://risources.dfg.de/detail/RI_00484_en.html).
