Welcome to the Department of Neuroanatomy, Institute for Anatomy and Cell Biology, at Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg. Our research focuses on structural and functional plasticity of neurons and their molecular regulation in health and disease. We are interested in better understanding how homeostatic mechanisms protect the brain under pathological conditions. Using reverse translational frameworks for invasive and non-invasive neuromodulation approaches that are employed in clinical practice, we strive to optimize current and to develop new therapeutic strategies in neurology and psychiatry based on ‘neural plasticity modulation’.
